the feeling of being in japan snuck up on me while studying yesterday: in a land where i do not know the language, save useless phrases like neko and aishiteru i half remember from days of trying to pick up a third language- stepping into a bookstore made me feel right at home. strange drawings form a language that is written on street signs, but enter the bright lights and quiet and tomes where once stood trees, were the titles i recognise and authors i love. suddenly, it felt safe to wander off from the parents and flit from shelf to shelf. it may have been a dark wintry night, but there in a bookstore, there was comfort, there was warmth.
am a little sad that i won't be around for christmas and countdown this year, really love the general festive atmosphere of the season.
so if anyone wants to get me some xmas gifts.... such beauties:
