watching the national day parade gives me a surge of patriotism. it really is amazing, how Singapore transformed in a short span of 44 years to what we are today. i can't say specifically how things were different in the past but all i know is that we have really come far. and that makes me wish that i was older so that i could better appreciate how much Singapore has grown and the people around me, myself included, could have more respect for Singapore. i am truly in awe of our founding fathers who have built this country up practically from scratch.Respect, Mr MM Lee.
Singaporeans are so lucky and it is startling how most of the time we fail to appreciate that. we live in such a highly modernised city with all of our little conviniences cared for yet we continue to have endless complaints about our city. sure, we may have a mainly one party government, we have a delegated "speaker's corner" for protests, singaporeans may have some issues with manners and graciousness, the opportunities in singapore may not be as vast as that of other countries. Yet Singapore is our Home, where our friends and family are, where we have grown up in (or are still growing), where we have had various experiences, where we were given multiple opportunties and nothing can ever change nor eclipse that.
i think it's okay that we pick out flaws in our singaporean society. self awareness and reflection aids growth and imo, developing a culture for thought, questioning and reflection is healthy. (in contrary to ... aye :/)
but no matter what, i love singapore and yes, i would "Stand Up For Singapore" because "it's the little things that we share" that makes Singapore special and i am "P2BS-proud to be Singaporean". :D
p.s. i said the pledge at 8.22, did you?
